Overview The mobile broadband technology used on the Dell™ Wireless 5550 HSPA Mobile Broadband Mini-Card are High Speed Data Packet Access (HSDPA), Wideband Code-Division Multiple Access (WCDMA), Enhanced Data GSM Environment (EDGE), General Packet Radio Service (GPRS), and Global System for Mobile (GSM). Both HSDPA and WCDMA are considered third-generation (3G) technologies. EDGE uses a faster GSM technology but is still not considered a 3G technology. GPRS is an older mobile broadband service that is still the only mobile broadband service available in some areas. HSPA 21 – The fi rst step of HSPA Evolution

The F5521gw offers true HSPA evolution speeds, 21 Mbps D/L, 5.7 Mbps U/L, giving users the fastest mobile
broadband experience available in an embedded device. Higher speed means less waiting and more time getting
things done whether it be productivity on a notebook, keeping track of family and friends with online social
networking or reading the latest bestseller or your emagazine subscription on a connected device.

Wake-on-wireless – Always connected
By remaining connected while a notebook is in sleep mode, wake-on-wireless technology enables users or
service providers to remotely wake up the device. This innovative technology will allow a new set of applications
to further enhance security, such as the ability to disable the computer in case of theft, or instant distribution of
important messages and security updates.

Specifically, the wake-on-wireless feature supports security solutions based
on Intel’s Anti-Theft PC Protection Technology. An anti-theft management
service in the network can send a message via SMS to the mobile broadband
module inside the notebook, which securely transfers the message to
Intel’s Anti-Theft function inside the processor platform, which locks down
the computer. When the notebook is located and recovered, an unlock message can be
sent to the notebook that makes the data accessible again.

Embedded GPS
Our F5521gw module comes with en enhanced GPS solution that utilizes AGPS
for fast and accurate location assistance. This GPS functionality enables
service providers and IT departments to combine the wake-on-wireless feature
and embedded network assisted GPS functionality to create a range of differentiating
services, including remote manageability, security updates, asset protection, tracking and geofencing.
